Club Meeting - 6:30, 4th Wed of Month

The June meeting was a huge success.  Renegade Racing Headquarters was an excellent venue and Jonathan Pauley a gracious host.  Bob Babbitt entertained us with stories from HIS first Ironman in 1980 and the original IM races in Hawaii in the late 70's.  The video detailing the history of CAF and it's impact in our community was extremely touching and set the perfet stage for the auction in Aug.  Please see more info below.

Our next meeting is July 22nd, back at the DUCK CLUB.

Plan to bring your running shoes for a premeeting fun "race" followed by a summer BBQ/picnic.  More info to follow...

Another year, another successful Orange County Tri Club trip to the beautiful and challenging Wildflower Festival, featuring a sprint mountain bike, Olympic and Long Course races.  Stan Gertler, as has been the tradition, went up early to secure a campsite for the tri clubbers as they trickled into camp Thursday and Friday.

Friday night’s potluck had all the fixins for a for a pre race meal from salad to caramel brownies.  The rain began before sunset. Turning in early on Friday to prepare for the race, the sticky, muddy ground had everyone curious about what Saturday would bring.  Bright and early, the Long Course and Mountain bike racers woke to a cool, DRY cloud covered morning.  The weather held out through the day and the afternoon sun sent many home with a sunburn as a souvenir.  Back to the campsite for more food and race recounts.  The course has a reputation for giving each racer a run for his money.

Sunday morning, another wave of racers headed out to the Olympic race.  Roy Sharp did a double header with the Long Course on Saturday and the Olympic on Sunday.  Another day of fantastic weather to wrap up the 2009 Wildflower Festival.  Enjoy the photos and we hope to see you next year….

"The Voice of Ironman", Mike Reilly, was our speaker at the April meeting.  If you have competed in or spectated at an Ironman, you have heard Mike Reilly. His is the voice that calls out each finishers name, followed by "You are an Ironman" as they cross the finish line.  We had a great turn out to hear a true legend in the multsport world. We had a special acknowledgement of our club's own ironmen ranging from those who have completed one ironman all the way to Rob Hogan who has complete 27 ironman races. Congratulations to all of you again, "you are an ironman!!!"
